Helen was born on October 7, 1932, in Cedar Rapids, After beginning her career at Collins Radio, she decided she wanted to teach and began her 25 year teaching career at Elvira, Iowa, Center Point, Iowa, Skokie, Illinois, and Cedar Rapids Jefferson and Roosevelt schools.
